Tarte Tarteist Pro Amazonian Clay Palette

The Tarte Tarteist Pro Palette was Tarte's holiday launch and I have to admit I wasn't too keen on buying this. I am a HUGE fan of Tarte and own quite a lot of their palettes, but the launch of this collection really left a bad taste in my mouth, and I know I wasn't the only one. Yes, I am talking about the Bora Bora trip. I seriously don't begrudge any influencer a trip that they have been given, as someone who's been blogging for over 8 years, I know how that goes and it happens all the time. However, the only thing I really saw of this trip (because I don't actually follow any of the influencers who went) were a lot of butt shots that popped up on my feed when I went in search of photos I might like. I hardly if ever saw the palette being promoted, just a lot of rear ends, and to me that seemed tacky. Maybe I'm an old lady, but I know that as a fan of the brand, I didn't need to see anyone's butt in order to be persuaded to buy any palette. As a fan it was pretty much a given that I would want to own such a beautiful palette, but seeing all those photos actually made me not want to buy it. In the end though, the beauty of the palette won out and I went ahead and ordered it and just tried not to think about how my gut told me not to.

The Tarte Tarteist Pro Palette is $53 and contains 20 eyeshadows. I love the color story of this palette, it truly is one of my favorites of recent times. I also love that the palette includes four of their iridescent luster eyeshadows which I have been dying to buy ( but haven't pulled the trigger because of their $12 price tag). So this palette looked like sheer perfection to me and even though most of the reviews I saw online were negative, I took the plunge and ordered it from Ulta

Visually this palette is a stunner, which is exactly what I would expect from Tarte. I love everything from the black box that this palette comes in, the black and gold of the outside of the palette and the gold inside where the shadows lay. This looked so pretty on top of my makeup area.

I'm not even usually a fan of gold but I love the way Tarte makes gold look elegant in their palettes and not tacky.

I swatched this palette live on both Instagram and Snapchat and I was gobsmacked from the minute I started. I had seen so many reviews saying this palette had terrible pigmentation, but as you can see by my swatches, that was not the case with my palette. The shades are stunning. What I did notice is that they didn't feel as creamy and soft as my other Tarte shadows and that a few felt really dry and almost rough (the darker shades). However, the pigmentation was there. I also really love the iridescent luster eyeshadows, if they ever make a palette of just those I will buy it in a heartbeat.

However, I did end up returning this palette even after loving it so much. Why? Every time I used this palette I had to fight the powdery kickback, especially with the first row which happens to be my favorite. The shade, Innocent, is especially powdery and gave me a ton of fallout. It became a pain to reach for this palette and considering I have bought around ten palettes in the last two months I realized there was no room for one that was too much of a hassle to work with, especially when it cost $53.

It was hard for me to take this back to Ulta, I really wanted to keep it but it made no sense if I knew I would not be reaching for it. I have very limited time to do my makeup and I need palettes that my eyeshadow application easy for me, and this did not. I don't think it's a bad palette though and if you haven't bought a ton of palettes like I have recently and have a little time to mess with kickback and fall out, then I think it's worth buying. As long as you're willing to work with it. Unfortunately, I don't have the talent, patience or time to mess with it, but if you do then I am happy for you because it's such a gorgeous palette and my heart misses it so much!
