What I Got For Christmas 2018

I shared a What I Got For Christmas post last year and thought it would be fun to share a new one this year. I don't actually get many presents for Christmas, in our family we concentrate more on the kids than adults, but I still always manage to get a few things. As usual, I am super grateful and excited for these new items and I do realize I am lucky to have a family that indulges me in my makeup habit.

NARS single eyeshadow in Tulum: I usually take advantage of the holiday season to get a pricier NARS or Makeup For Ever item from the boyfriend. A few of his past holiday gifts have been: the Melt Cosmetics She's In Parties Stack, the NARS One Shocking Moment Palette, and the Makeup Forever Holiday 15 Eyeshadow Palette from 2016.

So this year I waited to see what NARS would launch for the holiday season and once the Ignited Palette launched I decided it just is not for me. I do think it's a pretty palette but it's definitely not my kind of shade range. Instead I decided to go with a single shadow that I'd had in my cart over at Nordstrom for over two months.

Tulum is a mid-toned brown shade with a yellow undertone that makes it an ideal everyday shade for me. I see this as a perfect one-and-done shadow as well as a perfect crease shadow for tons of eye looks.

As of writing this post I still have not used this shadow but will return to update the post once I do.

Juvia's Place Warrior 2: I've been an admirer of Juvia's Place for years and years but there hasn't ever been a palette that made me take the plunge with them. I think it was a combination of having never seen any of their products in person (something I have now gotten to do at Ulta) and they have way too many colorful shades in each palette.

I used to be all about buying colorful shades but in the past two years I have come to the realization that I never touch them once I own them. So I have stopped buying them. When I spotted the Juvia's Place Warrior 2 Palette on IG it immediately piqued my interest. At first I couldn't even believe this was a Juvia's Place offering, I mean since when do they do really cool and sort of edgy palettes?

Taking advantage of their recent 50% off sale and the offer from one of my girls to order any palette I wanted, I went ahead and ordered my very first Juvia's Place palette. And I must say that she is as magnificent in person and she is in photos and I can not wait to use it.

Makeup For Ever Trio - Ah...Makeup For Ever shadows, how I love thee. And having not gotten a chance to test their reformulated formula I was very excited to be able to pick out a new trio in-store. I love, love getting to pick out my own single shadows, I think this is just the way to go when you don't want to have shadows in a palette that you never use. These shadows are available as a single or you can buy as many as you want to create a palette, trio or duo. I own a prior trio from the old formula and def wanted a second.

For my shades I picked out Dark Taupe, Bronze and Khaki, which are absolute perfection. I love a good taupe and was missing a truly perfect khaki in my collection, plus that Bronze shade (which I call more of an olive shimmer) is to die for.

I will be sharing a full review with swatches of this trio once I have used it a bit and I will also compare it to my first trio. Look for that post in the coming month.

And now for the pièce de rèsistance, the Natasha Denona Gold Palette. It was actually one of my girls that took the hit on this palette. I did try to soften the edge by at least making sure we got it during the Sephora VIB Rouge Sale, but still I am sure it was quite the blow to her bank balance.

But the heart wants what it wants and I so wanted this palette, I truly feel like out of all the Natasha palettes I have tried, this is the one meant for me. And I am SO excited to start dipping into it, just as soon as I can get some swatches done for this blog. Eeekkk, isn't it stunning??

The Kat Von D subject is one that I have not touched on in this blog and probably won't any further than this mention, but having received hew newest palette I feel like I should mention that this is a brand I no longer support. I do have a really large collection of Kat Von D products and plan to use them all up but I have zero plans to buy any more products myself from the brand.

That doesn't take away from the fact that I am grateful for one of my kids to have gone out of their way to find a palette with my perfect shade range. It really is exactly my kind of color range and I am grateful to her for gifting me something that in any other year prior to this, I would have bought myself.

And with that I am done sharing my holiday gifts from 2018 - all of which I am super excited for. I hope that you have also received something that makes your heart happy, whatever that may be. I am so looking forward to the new year and what it will bring and am happy to say goodbye to this holiday season as it has been very good to me and mine. I hope yours was just as good.
