My Low-Buy Year: What I Bought in January

January was the first month in my year-long no-buy and it was definitely a bumpy ride when it came to what I bought and returned. I actually had three returns but two of those were due more to damaged or old product, not because I didn't like them.

Overall, I didn't have as a hard a month in January as I thought I would, I really thought it would be a lot harder once I realized that I really only had $40 to work with. But the month passed and I never really felt like I was missing out on anything. I am actually having a much harder February, this is something I will touch on when I come back to report on my monthly purchases.

Wet n Wild Bronzer - I was so excited when I first spotted these new bronzers, I love the sleek packaging and was hoping this less-warm tone shade would work for me. But while the actual shade was okay, this particular bronzer has a ton of sheen on application. It gave me so much texture, it accentuated my pores and just made my skin look horrible. I couldn't even keep this for my girls because they all prefer matte bronzers, as do I, but I had really hoped that this one would work for me. Obviously, it did not.

Milani Conceal & Perfect Concealer - I actually really enjoyed this concealer but my tube was damaged. I sent it with my boyfriend to be exchanged when he made a trip to Walmart but he only returned it. I definitely have plans to get a new tube within the new few weeks.

L'Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Multi-Use Concealer - One of my favorites on YT (ttsandra) loves this concealer and after searching several stores in person and only finding really old looking tubes, I ordered it online from Target. But the tube I received was very separated it upon receipt, just like the ones we saw in-store and when the product came out it was not okay. At first, only a clear liquid came out and then the actual concealer, which was the pretty matte on the skin. I know from reviews of this product that it's not supposed to be matte, so I had to return it and might consider it again one day if I can find a tube that doesn't look separated and old.

I would have been happy to keep both of these concealers, as both were on my list to try, but I am also not going to keep damaged or old products.

Wet n Wild Ultimate Brown Pomade - At only $3.99, this brow pomade is now the most afforable I have ever tried, even cheaper than the ColourPop version. Plus, this comes with a little brush - which actually sucks - but the pomade itself is not bad. I do have to admit that I don't love this pomade as much as the Benefit Kabrow, I do find it to be much too creamy for my taste, but it's not bad at all. If you're in search of a good, super-affordable brow pomade, then I would not hesitate to recommend trying this one.

I will probably still replace my Benefit Kabrow once it finishes - I had actually hoped to replace it with this more affordable product - but I am glad to have this Wet n Wild version to carry in my to-go bag.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water - this is my favorite micellar water and it had been months since I'd had a bottle of it. I had hoped to treat myself to my first bottle of Bioderma - part of my low-buy year is to look for better quality versus quantity - but Beautlish has a $35 free shipping threshold and I was loath to pay for shipping. Seriously, I only have $40 to spend per month and the last thing I want to spend that on is shipping.

But that's okay, I am actually really happy about having the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water as my new micellar water, it's such a good product and I have truly missed using it. Plus it was super affordable and I had a $2 off coupon, which allowed me to roll over a really nice sum for Feb.

I will see you back in a few weeks with a report of my February purchases and so we can chat about what a shitter this entire month has been. I knew this low-buy was not going to be easy, but I guess I thought I would be better equipped to deal with it. Guess what? I'm not. I am still sick-little-me who wants to buy ALL of the eyeshadow palettes.
